Would like some help as Im thinking of building one myself.
Please don’t attempt what ryoohki166 is recommending. That simply won’t work. Waste of your time and possibly injure yourself.
M R gave you a good answer. You see the forces on the trainer stand are pretty substantial, and engineers have built the device to withstand such. Even if you were a professional welder–I asked one–the materials you need would probably cost more than buying a trainer.

This question came up before. (I couldn’t find the question)The consensus was that it’s really not a feasible project. Trainers are relatively inexpensive as it is, used they go for <$100 easy.
To be able to make a very strong stand that would hold a bike securly and resistence mechanism would be difficult. It’s just one of those things that seem simple but isn’t for the home tinkerer.

If you have an old bike im sure it’d be easy.
I was thinking of making one myself really.
All you’d need is the front wheel, back gear, chain, handels and seat (Or use your own)
Basically use the bike, but having the back wheel a chair constructed to a solid, sturty material with the back gear attatched to it. connecting the chain with the front wheel with the back gear making it peddel-able, but will not move (Of corse make sure the wheel is NOT on the ground, like have it held up by the bolts in the middle)
Good luck!!!

you could just get a metal support for the back wheel of an old bike but leave it so it could stil rotate, it wouldnt be too hard.

Crazy idea when you can get a perfectly good new one for $79.
When all is said and done, you’ll spend more for raw materials. Not to mention your time.
